Otoplasty, also known as cosmetic ear surgery, is a procedure that alters the shape and size
of the ears or pins them back if they stick out. Otoplasty can be done at any age after the
ears reach full size, usually after age 5. Otoplasty is considered a safe procedure when
performed by an experienced and licensed surgeon. Otoplasty takes 1 to 2 hours, and it
won’t change the location of your ears or alter your ability to hear. The procedure usually
involves making a small cut behind the ear or removing small pieces of cartilage. The
surgeon will put stitches at the back of the ear to position or reshape the ears.

Aftercare
You may be discharged from the clinic on the same day or the day after. You may feel soreness and numbness for the first weeks and bruising around the ears for 2 weeks. You may need a bandage around the head to help the ears heal in their new position. The bandage also protects the ears from infection, so keeping them clean and dry is crucial. It is essential to avoid contact sports for the 12 weeks after surgery.
